Hi,

I am using TOMAWAC to propagate waves from offshore to the coast.

In my steering file, I put "beta" for the 2D graphic printout in order to know the percentage of breaking. When I check my results, I see that beta varies in between -0.009 and -0.09. I guess that the -0.09 value means that there is breaking, but I would like to be 100% sure. That would mean that the beta value is not in percentage of breaking...

I don't find anything in the user manual about the unit ofthe beta value.

Here is an example of result (black lines represent the bathymetry):

Thank you.

Hello Gaetan

Beta is the wave breaking coefficient, i.e. the coefficient you use to multiply your enegy to get the breaking induced dissipation. its definition change according to the model of breaking you use but roughly it is Qbr/F.
You will find more explanation about that p 27 of the user documentation in "Bathymetric breaking-induced dissipations (term Qbr)"

hope it helps
