Hi there,

I'm a new user of Tomawac and I was hoping someone could offer some advice on the following.

I've been trying to generate waves in a basin by blowing a wind (spatially and temporally constant) over it. I used the QWIND2 subroutine to put a small amount of initial energy into the system and then used the "WIND VELOCITY ALONG X/Y" commands to implement the wind. From viewing the 2D results file, I can see that both of these tasks seem to be implemented correctly.

I had expected to see wave heights in the basin steadily grow until they become fetch-limited. Instead, I find that the waves grow very quickly at the beginning of the simulation and then gradually decay to a steady state. Does anyone have any idea why this might be?

Dear Enda

I think there was many different possible explanation and it's difficult to give you advise without any more information on your case.
Maybe you could join the steering file (in attachment) or all the files composing the case?

Hello Enda,

I can see you used our trick for the minimum energy value for growing wind waves out of nothing. I doubt this to be the reason though.

I do not have a real solution but only a few leads that could help:
- could it be that you are looking at an upwind location, hence the stabilisation for the fetch might reduce the energy in that area ?
- could it be that your various energy sinks (blocking, capping, breaking, etc.) gradually grow and balance out the energy sources only after a while ?

I hope this helps nonetheless.
