Hi Forum,

I am preparing wind SELAFIN file from ECMWF reanalysis data to compute wave propagation processes in TOMAWAC module. I am using v8p0r2 version and have tried two methods but have not succeeded yet:

Method 1: Inspired by the example "wind_txy", I have prepared the same format files to get varied wind in space and time. I have checked the mesh which can be smoothly run in telemac2d with tidal forcing, but there is still an error message as follows. Where could be the problem?

Method 2: I have used covertECMWF.py to download wind data inspired by #33003 in the Forum and it came out the warning message and cannot download data from the website.

Where could be the problem? Thanks for the advice.

Regards,
Hongyu

Hello,

The first advice would be to use recent version, since V8P0 there are 3 versions so many occasion to correct bug.

I changed one parameter in your steering file.
If you have
MATRIX-VECTOR PRODUCT = 2,
you need a renumbering of points in your mesh (that was the error message),
so i changed it to 1

and in the text file (fo1_wind_txy) you need to specify the number of stations and the number of points.

With the 2 files i join it works.

Hi tfouquet,

Many thanks for your constructive comments. It really works by changing the two points you mentioned. And I will try to update the TELEMAC to the latest version.

With best regards,
Hongyu

Hi tfouquet,

Thanks for your constructive comments. It succeeds in working out the wind file I need.

Many thanks!

Hi,
quick follow up question,
the wind data is then read by tomawac from the 'wind_ECMWF_100.slf' file ?
even though the wind velocities were not listed in the printout variables?

Hello,

No you have to have the wind velocity in the printout variable, and then the result of telemac2d become the wind file of tomawac.

Cheers

HI everybody,
I am also interested into the topic, can the wind be introduce as an ascii file, directly in Tomawac (like the meteo data in T3d)? or we do have to create the selafin file?

bests

Sorry you have to create a selafin file through telemac2d or telemac3d.
Tomawac doesn't read any ascii file for wind, unless you do it in a user fortran.

hi everybody, hi tfouquet ,

thank you tfouquet,
just an other one, in case of coupling Tomawac & T3D, is the wind taken into account by the T3d? btw covering every aspect of the wind of Tomawac, so I don't need to specify the wind caracteristics in tomawac steering file I mean like :
CONSIDERATION OF A WIND
STATIONARY WIND
WAVE GROWTH LIMITER
WIND VELOCITY ALONG Y
WIND VELOCITY ALONG X

all those variables are not required anymore ?

thx and Bests
