Hello,

I am a new Tomawac user, I need to simulate a storm event on a bay.
I read the Tomawac guide and succeed to run simulations. But I have some problems regarding the near-shore wave height (values are too high).
I have attached to this message some pictures of results and the case file.
I 've done several tests with diferent wave direction and time-step. But I still don't understand why I get these problems.

Please tell me if you need more information.

Regards,
Rémi

Hello,

what are your boundary conditions at the near-shore? Do you impose a prescribed value or is it a free boundary condition?

If it's not a problem with the boundary conditions, may be you have not enough dissipation : do you use a white-capping dissipation model? I saw there is a generation of wave by wind but you wind velocity is equal to zero? You can also try another model for the breaking dissipation.

Hello Elodie,

Thank you for your answer,

My boundary conditions at the near shore are a free boundary condition (code 444).
I tried to change the model of breaking dissipation (1, 2, 3 and 4) but nothing changed (pictures attached).
I also added the white-capping disspation model. But I still have High value of wave height along the shore...

Do you have any other idea ?

Thank's,
Rémi

Hello,

A precision about the boundary conditions in Tomawac : only the 1st data column (integer variable LIFBOR) of your boundary conditions file is used in TOMAWAC. The value must be 2 in the case of a free boundary condition (ie that absorbs the whole wave energy) and 5 in the case of a boundary with a prescribed value.

Tell me if this helps, otherwise I will have a look at your case file in more details.

Regards,

Elodie

Hello,

Thank you for your help;
I changed the boundary conditions file (attached) but nothing happened..

Hello,

ok. Could you send you geometry file? I'll try to run your case to see if I can help.

Apparently I cannot upload my geometry file, the file is too big (3.08M)?..
I can send it to you by mail, if you are ok.

I have not yet run the model but I have an idea : did you try to reduce the time step you impose to solve the model ?
