Hello,

I have a nearshore domain that I am using to run three way coupling. My intent is to run simulations for an entire year. To be practical I need to reduce the computation time somehow.

My Tomawac simulation uses waves imposed at the offshore boundary that vary with time. A different JONSWAP spectrum is imposed for each node in the offshore boundary each hour of the simulation. However, during periods of calms the offshore waves are rather small, and do not contribute much to the hydrodynamics or sediment transport. But they are still being calculated (waves are being propagated to the shoreline), and this is taking time.

Can I modify a Tomawac subroutine and tell Tomawac to execute (and propagate waves) only if the offshore waves exceed a particular threshold, say 0.3 m? For time steps where offshore waves are less than the threshold, I can be content with all nodes in the domain being assigned a zero spectrum, or something small.

Can someone suggest how I might start this?

Thanks,

Pat

Hi Pat

In my opinion, a possible solution should be to modify the wac.f subroutine. maybe after reading the boundary conditions, you could bypass the computation step according your threshold.

Hope this helps
