Hello,
I am having problems with the velocity in the est boundary of my model, as an eddy, that doesn't exist, is created in the coastal part.
I have modified the free surface in the est boundary, having higher values in the coastal part (2.26) drecreasing linearly until the end of the boundary (2.25). I have also modified the density law comparing the in situ data with the data generated with the three possibilities of TELEMAC. I have tried imposing only the water elevation (as in the image) in the boundary conditions and also imposing water elevation+ velocities using THOMPSOM. But I continue to have the same problem, that starts always in the same node, the one with the velocities in red. I have checked the bathymetry, and everything looks fine.
Could you please help me? I am running out of ideas to solve the problem.
Thank you very much!

Hi
What kind of boundary condition did you impose?
I suspect you just impose Time series without spatial variation (except in your test)

Maybe you could try TPXO or look on the friction coefficient which could play a role near the coast.

Kind regards

Hi,
Now I am impossing only time series, because I have already tested spatial variation, and it wasn't working, as the velocities where really low close to the coast.
I have also tried TPXO, but now I am doing some tests regarding the friction coefficient, and as you say, it seems to play a role near the coast, as it looks a bit better, eventhough I still have the eddy.
Thank you very much!
Best regards

Dear all,
in fact for the offshore boundary, we are using eithor tpxo solution (amazon shelf) or harmonic constant extracted from fes2012.
It works quite well with Telemac 2d when we use thompson boundary condition.
The amplitude of the tidal current is quite low (up to 0.15 m/s for M2). When we try with Telemac 3D, the velocity is progressively increasing at some nodes (velocity up to 3 m/s). It works better if we only impose the tidal elevation with Telemac 3D. We do not understand why we have so important differences from T2d to T3D.
We have modified the option in the routine (THOMPS_2DTO3D) but without improvement.
best
