TOPIC: Problem about the calculation of the wind-driven flume

Problem about the calculation of the wind-driven flume 4 years 11 months ago #35059

Recently, I was trying to calculate the wind-driven water flume using telemac. The example is a square flume with side length of 12km, with 10 m/s wind coming from the East. When I study the horizontal velocity distribution along the vertical direction of the center point of the flume, I find that there is a great gap between the analytical solution and the numerical calculation result :( . This is the file I used for my calculation. I'd be very grateful if someone could give me some advice.
best regard.

Hi
Without looking in detail in your configuration, two remarks
You define a friction law but no coefficient, and your results looks like the friction at bottom is too low
Use the non-hydrostatic version

Hope this helps

Hi
According to what you said, i have adopted NON-HYDROSTATIC VERSION and added roughness coefficient of Manning coefficient 1 to the bed surface, but the numerical result is still far from the analytical solution. It's hard to understand what caused this.is it possible that this is caused by HORIZONTAL and VERTICAL TURBULENCE MODEL?I'd be very grateful if you could give me some advice.

Hello,

Could we have more information about your analytical solution?
It seems you do not impose the good velocity at the free surface. In addition, did you obtain the steady state?

Best regards,
JF
