Dear all,

I have been runnning some scenarios for my PhD thesis investigation using Telemac 3D model. Even though I managed to calibrate and validate it nicely, I am having some issues to validate the water mass balance/conservation in the system.

The estuary is shallow, mangrove-fringed and presents two inlets, two small islands and three shallow channels which connect to each other in the northern part as you can see on the figure 1.

To test the volume balance in the system, I computed cross sectional fluxes in eight different cross sections using the provided methods of postel python 3 scripts, which consider H.U+H.V to integrate the flux. The green lines on the figure 1 show the chosen cross sections.

In this context, I computed the fluxes on the norhern island cross sections and the balance seems ok, as you can see on the next figure 2 (3 - 4):

After I tried to do the same for the southern part of the system and the two inlets. The balance in this case however is quite different of zero, sometimes greater than 10m3/s between the two inlets. Please, see figure 3 (1-2):

That said, could anyone help me to undersand this balances? Attached is my configuration (.cas) file.

Best regards,

José

Well, I may be completely wrong, but first impression is that the difference even in 10m3/s looks not so big. In case of non steady state the sea level variation should be taken into consideration. Try to divide the unbalanced amount of water (10m3/s*timeStep) on the sea surface area and corresponding sea level probably will be very small.

Hey, can i know how do get the result for the graph ? in my case, I want to do the Balzano test case in the validation document, in the validation there is a graph like this for mass conservation and energy balance, do you mind teach me how they validation get the graph and results ?
