TOPIC: Time series files - station names

Time series files - station names 2 months 1 week ago #45645

Hi all,

I am using the time series file feature of Telemac v8p5r0. It reads the time series coordinate file, which includes the x, y coordinates, ID, and name of each output station, and then exports the 2D/3D history outputs in Selafin format.

In the output Selafin files, the x, y coordinates and ID are present, but the station names are not included. I would like to know if there is a specific reason for this omission. Including the station names in the Selafin files would greatly facilitate the post-processing of model results for users.

Kind regards,
Mostafa

Hello,

I am not the developer of time series file feature.

Anyway, here are some hints to explain why you cannot get station names in your time series file (to my point of view):
- in the examples of time series coordinates file, it can be read in the comments: "The station name is not used by TELEMAC, but is to increase the readibility of this file", the developer does not seem to want to handle this information,
- you can read the SERAFIN format in the developer guide (Subsection 9.3.2 or chapter 19). No place for strings and station names I think.

For post-processing, you will have to only deal with x, y coordinates and ID I think.

Hope this helps,

Hi all,

I confirm the answer from Chi-Tuan. I would have liked to have the station names in the output files, but the selafin file format unfortunately does not allow it. However, you can give each station a unique id, which is written to the IKLE array. In this way you can postprocess the results also easily

Kind regards,

Alexander
