Calculate Courant Number for Telemac3D 12 years 9 months ago #3675

Hey everyone,

I am looking for a way to calculate the Courant Number during my Telemac3D simulation (and have it as an print out variable).
I know there is a routine in Telemac2d, but I found nothing comparable for 3D. Maybe someone already tried to do this and can pass me her/his routine?
Otherwise, maybe someone has a hint which routine would be a good example for doing a new courant 3d routine?

Thanks very much!

Hello Annalena,

Yes, this is not so far a variable that is computed, I should add it, however we may face the problem that it will be very different if we consider it along the horizontal or on the vertical. To do it simply, I would compute it as : norm of velocity * cubic root of volume around point / DT, and for volume around point I would take the array VOLUPAR. If you use distributive schemes (3, 4 or 5) their number of iterations is about the Courant number.

With best regards,
