Hello,everyone.

I would like to use a simple test to validate telemac3d.

It's wind induced current.

But according to the result, the elevation on one side keeps rising,so there is no vertical circumfluence, just horizontal.

I have no idea what's the reason for that.

Could someone be nice to help me with that?

Please see attached the steering file and result file.

Thanks. :P

Hi hong,

There is a test case in the validation folder of TELEMAC-3D called 012_vent. The validation document for version 6.2 is in progress, but you can read the 6.0 version in:
www.opentelemac.org/index.php/validation

The test case is called "HORIZONTAL CHANNEL SUBMITTED TO A WIND" has not changed a lot between the two versions. You can see that for the coefficient of diffusion of velocities both in the horizontal and vertical directions are different from the default value, in particular are bigger.
You could try to test the parameters that are different from your case (in particular for the coefficient of diffusion of velocities).

When you talk about a "circumfluence", do you mean a round movement of the water like in Figure 3.4.2 of the validation document?

Hope this helps,

Chi-Tuan

PS: I could not have seen your result file...

Pham, thank you. Your suggestion helps me a lot.

Now the result is better.

Furthermore, I add "sediment" into the cas file.

But an error "MURD3D: ITERATION NO. REACHED 100 , STOP.
ALFA = 2.132270134573886E-002
GUILTY POINT = " always occurs.

I read some posts in the forum, then changed all the maximum irritation number to 300, and reduced the time step. Both ways didn't work.

Could you please tell me how to solve the problem?(attached cas file)

Best wishes

Hello Hong,

Are there differences between the geometry files and boundary conditions files of your two cases windc and ss? Can you describe your geometry more, please? Do you have any tidal flats in your domain?
It seems that you do not use any Fortran file, in particular no CONDIM subroutine to define the distribution of the vertical planes. I wonder how you defined the distribution of your vertical planes? (please read the TELEMAC-3D user manual in version 6.2).
By looking more carefully to your steering file, I can read the keyword ELEVATION OF INTERMEDIATE REFERENCE LEVEL that has not existed any more since version 6.2. Which version are you using? 6.1? If 6.1 or older, please update your TELEMAC version to 6.2, there were a lot of changes in particular for the transformation of the 3D mesh management.

If the update of your model and the use of the CONDIM subroutine correctly changed are not enough, can you try to run 2 simple simulations, please?
- the 1st one is a simulation with the same keywords as in ss-n.cas but without any tracer nor sediment keywords (a simple hydrodynamic simulation). Compared to windc.cas, your case has slightly changed (in particular: no wind, different boundary conditions?, tracer, sediment),
- the 2nd one is a simulation with the same keywords as in ss-n.cas but without any sediment keywords (but with tracers).

If only your 2nd case does not work, my sediment transport colleagues will have to investigate.

Anyway, you can also try to increase the MAXIMUM NUMBER OF ITERATIONS FOR DIFFUSION OF SEDIMENT.

Hope this helps,

Chi-Tuan

Dear pham,

Thanks a lot for your reply.

Yes, the version I am using is v6.1. Now I have downloaded v6.2 and the mannual.

I thought the distribution of the vertical planes was defined in the steering file through the keywords "NUMBER OF HORIZONTAL LEVELS"、"NUMBER OF THE INTERMEDIATE REFERENCE LEVEL" and "ELEVATION OF INTERMEDIATE REFERENCE LEVE" and thought the subroutine CONDIM is only used to define the initial contiontions. No wonder the stratification in my case is not as clear as that in the validation case.;)

Dear all,

I think I have the same problem but little different. My simulation run normally when I don't have tracer but when I activate it, the computation stops and I get the error message attached.

Someone can helps me?

Thank you in advance...

Hi all,

I should like to reiterate my request about the error attached. Launching a simple hydrodynamic simulation (without tracer), the program runs normally, but when I add a tracer I get this error:

MUR3D: ITERATION REACHED No. 100, STOP.
ALFA = 1,........ (it varies when I change the time step time step).
GUILTY POINT = 1

When I reduced my time step, the program starts to run, but it stops after a moment. As far as I decrease the time step the program runs longer but finally it stops with the same error.

Thank you in advance.

Hello,

Advection schemes 3, 4 and 5 do not work with tidal flats or crushed elements (elements with no volume), if you are in this case choose instead schemes 13 or 14, moreover choose options where the depth remains positive (my other post today on trapezoidal canal).

Regards,

JMH

Thank you Jean-Michel HERVOUET, it's running.
I used the default option of the key-word "SCHEME FOR ADVECTION OF TRACERS" which is 5.

Regards.
