open TELEMAC-MASCARET The mathematically superior suite of solvers

Hi all,

I am currently trying to model tracer transport (bacterial concentrations) in a coastal area that also includes a small river.
A gate has been built on this river. It blocks the flux when it is closed and releases it when it is open.
Anybody know if this can be handled by Telemac 3D ?

So far people mask elements to close a gate, you can try this. However in the long run I do not like masking elements. It is OK for classical finite element algorithms (the contribution of these masked elements is just cancelled) but the effect is less clear when it comes to characteristics of distributive schemes, and any algorithm based on segments. Another possibility would be to treat a gate as a weir with a specific law.

Is the weir thing also working in T3D. Would that help me in simulating a lock separating a river and lake and when it is opened with different height ?

Hello,

Unfortunately, there is no weir programmed in 3D as in 2D. However a weir is treated in 2D as 2 different liquid boundaries, with some relation between their water elevation and flowrate, so it is possible to do this in 3D.
