Dear All,
I am running 3D simulations of an estuary model which is about 10 km long. The boundary condtions are water level at the downstream and discharge at the upstream. The boundary conditions are values obtained from another numerical model. Around the center of the model is a calibration profile, also obtained from a numerical result.
Telemac3D simulation gives good agreement of the water surface at the calibration profile, however, the velocities are underestimated; as high as 50% at high flows. I have tried to vary the physical parameters such as turbulence and friction but the velocities could not increased as much as I wanted.
I appreciate your ideas or experiences!

Hello,

You will find many posts on the problem of open boundaries and well posed problems at these boundaries. Thompson boundary conditions are a solution, and in this case you would give also the known velocities, that would be taken into account in the conditions given by Thompson, it gives 5 6 6 for beginning the corresponding lines of the boundary conditions file, and:

OPTION FOR LIQUID BOUNDARIES=1;1;1;2;1;1;1 (example with 7 boundaries and boundary 4 with Thompson)
