The upcoming XIXth TELEMAC-MASCARET Users Conference will take place on the 18th and 19th October 2012. Training courses and workshops are likely to be organised the two days preceeding the conference.

You can vote for your favourite training/workshop topic in the poll above, and add a new request in this forum discussion. Up to 3 votes per person is allowed. The poll is open until the 30th September 2012. Once you have voted, you will be able to see the current results.

The user conference and workshop will take place respectively on the 18-19th and 16-17th October 2012 in Oxford and Wallingford in the UK.

It is now open for registration, and abstracts can be submitted until the 30th May 2012. For full information see the following page.

I am new to Telemac and would like the user conference training to touch on the following topics (see below). To get the most out of the training, I was wondering how each session would work? Will there be worked examples, that we should work our way through or will someone describe the procedure required in order to achieve a certain task?

1. I would like to know what mesh generation tools there are and whether there are generic algorithms that can perform mesh convergence for arbitrary geometry. Perhaps a tall order, but at the minimum it would be nice to know which tools are best for coastal basin simulations, in particular tidal motion.

2. It would be interesting to know how energy extraction using tidal stream turbines can be modelled using Telemac. Could you impose drag at a point to model a turbine or would a fence with a certain blockage/porosity be a better option? Obviously quite a specialised question, but perhaps someone knows how to model at the very least a tidal barrage?

Short training sessions will be in the form of live demonstration during which you can ask any question you'd like and direct the demonstartion towards your needs.

Mesh generation and sample of coding (energy extraction) can be accomodated. The decision on schedule and subjects will be taken later in August.

I am a new Telemac user and I am thinking about the opportunity to come at the next Telemac-Mascaret users conference. Some time ago I have read that the possibility of coupling the 1D model (Mascaret) to the 2D module (Telemac) will be presented during this conference. In the new website I did not find anything about that so can anybody tell me if this is true or I misunderstood? In case it is true I think it could be useful to include a practical application of the 1D module during user conference trainings.

On the contrary, could you tell me approximately when it will be available ?

Mascaret will be available soon on the website, but to start with in standalone mode. There will be presentations on Mascaret at the workshops on 16 and 17 October before the user club in Oxford. Concerning the coupling, it works but needs an interoperability platform like Palm or Salome (the latter is the platform used at EDF and CEA, it is also free). We are waiting for a Mascaret-Telemac-2D coupling that works under Salome platform before advertising on this and it should be done at the beginning of next year.
