I am a PhD student in France and I am working with my team on the optimization of fixed and floating breakwater, we was use the model of Berkoff for the hydrodynamic model, then we tried to introduce the improvements that you had did,

the question is about the method that you have used to simulate the irregular wave input, I was searching in the references that you have put, they are not so clear, and inside the only one, I couldn't find everything about the method.

please if you can help me to know more about the references in case of irregular wave, and specially about the way to decompose the wave than to reconstruct it after treatment.

for example, why if the 5 representative wave have the same energy, so we can just put the square of H is equal to the sum of squares of Hi? what will happened if they are not? what is the reference of this hypothesis.

Hi ,

The way we choose the frequency repartition is decribed in the documentation, and the formula used to compute the energy (and thus, the significant wave height as well).
Usually, when you work under linear hypothesis, you write the free surface as eta = sum ( Ai cos(2pi*fi t+ phi) ).
and you get the relation :
Hs**2 = 16 mo, where mo is proportional to the sum of Ai**2, so to the sum of Hi**2 (Hi=2 Ai)

You can read :
- the documentation
- Bernard Molin's book "Hydrodynamique des structures offshore" chapter 2 & 3 , available on google books.

to get details about wave modelling under linear assumption.

Christophe
