Hi,

I need to combine waves and currents, using Artemis. Can you please let me know if there is a way to directly link both Artemis and Telemac 2d models? Or should that combination be made indirectly, at a post-processing stage?

Thank you very much for your help.

Hi

Usually, the mesh for Artemis are finer than mesh for Telemac2D.
There is no automatic link between Artemis and Telemac-2D.
Could you explain what you want to do exactly?

Hi C. Coulet, thanks for your feedback.
In my case I need to investigate how currents would modify the wave height, in order to get the final wave height including the currents contribution. So, from my understanding this has to be done after running the waves in Artemis and then doing some calculations using both waves results and currents velocities. Do you know any formulation/reference to obtain that final wave height?

Many thanks.

Hi
In my opinion, you should run Artemis after Telemac2D and take in account the current in artemis (there is a keyword for that)
The point I haven't investigate is how to give the telemac2D result to artemis.
Maybe you have to project the 2D result on the artemis mesh if they are different and you should look in the code how to declare the telemac file (probably binary file 1)

Hope this helps

Hello Amelia,

You can model wave refraction by currents (specified in condih.f) but then you can't take into account bottom effects. It is one or the other with Artemis. Why can't you use TOMAWAC?

Regards,
Costas

Edit: I should clarify that you can't take into account second order bottom effects, i.e. RAPIDLY VARYING TOPOGRAPHY and/or CURVATURE. Simple mild slope equations should work.

Thanks Costas for your feedback. I can't use Tomawac because the region of study is an harbour, and I would like to evaluate the impact of the structures.
I am exploring the solution presented by C. Coulet (thanks!), using a keyword to pass the information from Telemac2d to Artemis and, since the domain is small, trying to use the same mesh in both Telemac2d and Artemis.

Many thanks.

Hi C.Coulet, thank you very much for your help.
I am testing the use of Telemac2d output results when running Artemis, to account the currents, using the example bj78. I am changing the Artemis steering file, adding the keyword BINARY DATA FILE 1 with the specification of the Telemac2d results file and the keyword BINARY DATA FILE 1 FORMAT specifying the Serafin format. The simulation ran without problems but apparently the currents were not used in Artemis as I got exactly the same wave height results. Am I missing some other keywords? Is Artemis using the last time step referred to Telemac2d results by default?
How do I specify the use of Telemac2d results corresponding to a specific time step, for example corresponding to a high tide or to a low tide, to know the tide variation effect on wave height?

Thanks again.

Hello, this post is 7 years old, but since this time did you know how to chain Artemis and Telemac?
Thanks!
