The z value of many points are not reasonable, and may be seen as invalid value?

yeah... seems like it!

If you want, please pass me an example file so that I can test to see if I've solved the problem.

Kindly... Alan

I can't seem to send private messages via the OpenTelemac forum.

Please send me it via email or drop box. Or use the CHyMS File Sharing Service
- For the latter, I can send you a link via email

Rather than prompt on file open I think from a usability point of view it might be better to add a GUI feature that would allow the user to set/modify the NoDataValue and provide an option to recompute the relevant stats, colourscale etc...

It probably makes sense to invoke this from the Meta Data page.

That would provide the user with the ability to edit/modify a particular dataset and then have the control to update stats, colourscale etc...

Options:
  • Ask for an optional NoDataValue upon load
  • Add something to the MetaData tab to be able to specify a NoDataValue
  • Similar to Edit > Shift in X/Y... add Edit > Set Missing Value...
  • Something else...

For now, the first one is done. I will think about what might be best overall given that not all objects use attributes and therefore not all objects support NoDataValue!

Yup.
Perhaps option 3 makes more sense...

My objection to option 1 is that this functionality is required by an edge case and the query on load is unnecessarily intrusive.

But you're the boss. :)

I understand your objection. And my objection is that, more often than expected, the source code does not behave as I would expect.

Therefore, "adjusting" things after a load is sometimes akin to a full reload anyway. Certainly in the case of multiple frames or objects that are not (yet) fully aware of NoDataValue.

Options I'm currently considering:
  • Ask for an optional NoDataValue upon load
  • Add something to the MetaData tab to be able to specify a NoDataValue
  • Similar to Edit > Shift in X/Y... add Edit > Set Missing Value...
  • Similar to Edit > T3 Mesh > Options > Select Nodes Only add Edit > Load Options > Prompt for Missing Value
  • Something else...

Still pondering... Alan

PS If anyone has a particular preference one way or another, please chime in!

I don't see myself using this feature much, but I'd vote for MetaData personally. I tend to "default to" the Properties box whenever I try to edit anything.

On the one hand, asking for NoDataValue upon load could be time-saving; on the other hand, it might become annoying for those seeking to load multiple files. So it might be worth considering retaining this option, wtihout removing the ability to edit the NoDataValue later. Or even to have an application setting to disable asking upon load...

Cheers,
André Renault

Thanks for the discussions and suggestions.

I've added a new menu option: Edit > File Load Options > Set Global :NoDataValue so that this edge case will not interfere with people who don't need it. Also, it only needs to be set once so that multiple file loads will all use the same global :NoDataValue (if set).

And I've tested it by loading one XYZ file WITH and WITHOUT the global :NoDataValue set. This new feature seems to work as intended.
