Hi,

I am going through Nestor examples in sisyphe folder. Is it possible to carry out model studies for suspended sediments i.e. mud dumped at designated location using Nestor? If anybody is having more examples regarding Nestor please share the same.

Hello,
Yes, you can use Nestor also for suspended sediment transport. Anyway, a word of caution: for the time being you need to set the bedload equal to zero, as follows:
BED LOAD = YES
BED-LOAD TRANSPORT FORMULA = 1
MPM COEFFICIENT = 0.
SUSPENSION = YES

This will be corrected in the new release.

It can be also great if you give us your feedback on using Nestor. As it is a newly developed tool, any suggestion and remark will be welcome.

Best wishes,

Pablo

Hello,
Thanks Pablo for prompt reply.I want to know two/three aspects about Nestor.
1. Is it possible to simulate dumping of mud i.e. cohesive sediments using Nestor which require only suspended sediment transport?
2. Can it be possible to model dispersion cloud of dumped material(mud)using Nestor?
3. Can it be possible to find evolution of bed for same material ?

In short, I want to know that can it be possible to replace Subief-2d with Nestor.

Thanks

Hello,
Please find below my comments.

1. Is it possible to simulate dumping of mud i.e. cohesive sediments using Nestor which require only suspended sediment transport?
I think it's possible. If some particular processes for cohesive sediment are neglected (e.g. flocculation, etc.), mud sediment transport processes can be modelled in a similar way as suspended sediment transport (of course, by accounting the specific evaluation of the erosion and deposition terms (E and D).

2. Can it be possible to model dispersion cloud of dumped material(mud)using Nestor?
What you will have is the distribution of the sediment concentration that will change in space and time.

3. Can it be possible to find evolution of bed for same material ?
At this time, sediment tracking is difficult to perform in the system. We're discussing about that.

Cheers,

Pablo

PS: it could be great to have your feedback on using Nestor for mud!

Hello,

Pablo Thanks for your prompt response.

I will try for cohesive sediment transport.

After successful attempt, I will give you the feedback.

Hello All,

I am trying to use Nestor for cohesive sediment transport for dumping of mud.I am not successful as of now.I want to know some subroutines needs to be attached as FORTRAN file for the same.
