Hello Clemens
soon we will provide the first informations about TUC 2017! Maybe the training workshop in the next Telemac User Conference 2017 could be a good opportunity to introduce the capabilities of the Python scripts?!

No problem for running a poll for the subjects of the conference workshop (maybe closer to the event ?). Also, I would be happy to do a 2-hour session or longer on python scripts for TELEMAC (a lot has happened since I last did it at the 2013 conference in Karlsruhe). Let me know if part of the final agenda.

Sébastien.

Please do not forget to update the information present on the website www.opentelemac.org to reflect the state of the art on the post processing utilities.

My personal point of view.

So it can be frustrating to work with TELEMAC and it is no excuse that some other open source /commercial codes are not better. It is possible to get some commercial support, not sure if this can help some of the beginners.
...

I react to the excerpt above as a sample of a general discourse that may be going around Telemac -- so, I don't challenge it at a personal level.

In which terms would the other available codes be 'not better'?

I am aware that Telemac brands itself as 'the mathematically superior suite of solvers'. But with this state of the play concerning the documentation and information management, one just loses or alienates users or beginners (whether individuals or institutions). With my experience so far my endorsement for Telemac is surely not whole-hearted.

And the people involved in other models are by no means slouches -- they re-think, develop and wrap stuff as well. If you don't take care of things, you run a serious risk of losing ground as far as attraction and acceptance is concerned.

And, even in a commercial setting, the more time and money you have to invest in asking for support, the more score points you loose.

Indeed, I agree that that would be an excuse, and possibly a dangerous one.

My 2 cents
