Hi all

Is it possible to import points in WGS84 (lat and Long) format to Matisse to build a mesh?
The filters only allow metres, km, miles or nm.
I have data from a survey in xyz format with lat,lon and depth below chart datum.
Can anyone help me by suggesting which file format I should use and how to set it.

Thanks
John

One option is to use BlueKenue.
- Open the xyz file. File->Open (change File Type to xyz)
- Open the properties pages for the xyz object and select the Spatial tab.
- Select the "Assign" button to launch the Coordinate System Assign dialog.
- Set the projection to LatLong and Ellipsoid to WGS84
- Select OK
- Now back on the Spatial tab, using the drop down control select your desired target projection (UTM, PolarStereo, etc.)
- Select "Apply" button.
- The xyz points are now projected.
- Save the xyz object to a new file.

Please refer to "Coordinate Systems" section of the manual starting on page 26.

Hope this helps... Martin

Thanks Martin
I have created a mesh in BlueKenue but wanted to try Matisse, as I prefer to use its capability of creating node separation based on depth.
Perhaps Matisse cannot import WGS84.

Hi John

You're right, Matisse is not able to deal with Lat and Long coordinates. So it's impossible for you to import WGS84 data.

Hi John,
You can (indirectly) use depth to control mesh density. If you define a transfer function that relates depth to mesh density (which is in fact edge length) using the calculator you can create a density object from your depth data.
