MU - Skin friction correction - Greater than 1 ??? 6 years 3 months ago #31038

Hello,

I am running a coupled model of telemac2d and sisyphe. I tried to play a bit with the skin friction correction for calibration purpose.

In the telemac2d ".cas" file I declared

LAW OF BOTTOM FRICTION = 3
FRICTION COEFFICIENT = 50

Then in the sisyphe ".cas" file I asked MU as an ouput variable and I declared :

SKIN FRICTION CORRECTION : 1
RATIO BETWEEN SKIN FRICTION AND MEAN DIAMETER : 3.6

When I look at the results, MU is ranging between 0 and 4 ... I was thinking that MU is supposed to be between 0 and 1, to be smaller than the TOB.

I am doing/understanding something wrong (like wrong law of friction in the t2d module) ?

Thanks in advance for your explanation.

Best regards,
Thibault

Hello,
The way in which \mu is computed is explained in section 2.6.1 of the User's manual. This value is function of the ratio between the skin friction and sediment diameter, which in turn is strongly dependent of the physics under consideration (bed with dunes, bars, etc. see Mendoza et al., JHE).
Play around with different values of the ratio and let me know.

Best wishes,

Pablo
