Hi,

I'm modelling a supercritical flow in a river with sediment transport (Telemac2d + Sisyphe). Supercritical flow at the boundary condition give the following error:

DEBIMP: PROBLEM ON BOUNDARY NUMBER 1
GIVE A VELOCITY PROFILE
IN THE BOUNDARY CONDITIONS FILE
OR CHECK THE WATER DEPTHS.
OTHER POSSIBLE CAUSE:
SUPERCRITICAL ENTRY WITH FREE DEPTH
IN THIS CASE GIVE A POSITIVE DEPTH
IN THE INITIAL CONDITIONS
OR PRESCRIBE THE DEPTH AT THE ENTRANCE.

PLANTE: PROGRAM STOPPED AFTER AN ERROR

To solve that, I include a transition zone to have subcritical flow at the inlet. The main problem is, that in the transition zone the velocities are smaller so the bedload transport is less that what the river is able to transport.

The question is, it is possible to include a solid discharge within the mesh and not at the liquid boundaries of the model?

I attached an image to explain better my issue.

Best regards,

Gonzalo

Hello,

A supercritical flow at an entrance needs to prescribe velocity AND depth, as says the error message, this is the theory and you cannot escape it, you must know the depth. This would be the first thing to try.
A solid discharge in the middle of the domain is possible with DredgeSim, however I see nobody using it so we do not have too much experience with it.
Maybe my colleagues in charge of sediment transport will have other ideas regarding what to do with the sediment.

With best regards,
