TOPIC: Difference between tomawac and swan and Mike SW in wind wave

Difference between tomawac and swan and Mike SW in wind wave 4 years 1 month ago #36895

I am using the method of coupling TOMAWAC with TELEMAC2D to calculate the wind wave field of inland lake TAIHU lake.
I compared the results with other results calculated by SWAN and MIKE SW, and found that the results calculated by TOMAWAC are quite different.
I think the difference may be due to the different settings of DEPTH-INDUCED BREAKING DISSIPATION. I have uploaded all the files needed for the calculation.
I hope you can give me some advice on why the resluts caculated by TOMAWAC are quite different from using SWAN and MIKE SW, it would be a great help for me  .

Hello,
First of all, with a 60s timestep there is no way breaking is resolved. Especially with a peak period in the order of 1s. If your model involves wave breaking, then your timestep should be around 1s or less in your case.
Also, have a look at this thread (#4323)

I adjusted the time step to 1 s, but the results did not change significantly, and I found that there was a significant difference in the results after one hour.I am wondering if there is a problem with the calculation settings.

Hello

You forgot to put the file wind that is needed by telemac2d as ASCII ATMOSPHERIC DATA FILE.

I see that you chose Battjes and Janssen as model of breaking disssipation, i guess you did the same with other codes.

T.
