Hello,

I have a tide harmonic constituent file based on PREVIMER data (TIDAL DATA BASE = 3) that works fine for a T2D model, where tide is dominant. Now, if I want to go for the same model in 3D, it seems it is not that easy (according to the user manual), as the interface is not implemented yet in T3D.

Is there anything I can do to have it working in T3D still?

Thank you very much for your help.
JBS.

Hi Jean-Baptiste,

The feature of miscellaneous tidal database works fine both in 2D and 3D, I use it for both Previmer and FES2014 databases.
Can you explain a little more what is your issue?

Regards,
Laurent

Thanky you Laurent,

Well the code says, after having run for 10min, that he gets one negative values for height on the boundary, related to BORD3D... and it crushes.

Hi,

So you can look at the results at this node (prescribed free surface, bottom and depth) to understand why negative value appears just before crushing.
Maybe the point is located at one end of your maritime boundary, just near a land boundary in a shallow area.

I hope it helps.

Laurent

Hello Laurent,

It is fine. The problem was due to one boundary point where the bottom level was too high, so the water depth was negative at low tide (i.e. tidal flat on the boundary). The DEM is referenced to the mean sea level that is why this aspect had not been anticipated.

On the other hand, TELEMAC2D deals better with it by setting 0 for depth whenever H<0.

So thank you Laurent for your help,
JBS.

I suggest you to define the maritime boundary so as not to have tidal flats on its nodes and to use advection schemes compatible with tidal flats to avoid negative depths.

Laurent

A quick remark on this point.
Do you mean advection scheme for H? Scheme 5 is recommended (if not imposed) in both T2D and T3D so we don't have so much latitude to play around with it (otherwise, scheme 14 should be fine).
Am I wrong?...

For depth, I think scheme 5 is mandatory.
For velocities, you can use scheme 13 or 14 with tidal flats.
You can also use TREATMENT OF NEGATIVE DEPTHS = 2 (or 3 in 2D).

Laurent
