Hi everyone,

I am trying to run simulations coupling Telemac3d and Tomawac on Palavas-Les-Flots, but I am having an issue where the UV velocities are exiting the system through the beach to the liquid boundaries instead of entering through the boundaries and diffusing towards the beach. I was wondering if anyone has encountered this issue before and has any suggestions on how to fix it.

Hello,

I would recommend you to proceed step by step and increase difficulty step by step:
- run a TELEMAC-3D simulation without coupling with TOMAWAC. Do you have the same behavior? If not, it may be an issue with the TOMAWAC coupling. If yes, it may be an issue with your use of TELEMAC-3D.

Anyway, I would recommend you a few things:
- rebuild your mesh as it is quite ugly with these flat triangles with obtuse angles. The transition between triangle size is quite fast. Are the areas where bottom elevation is above 0 m supposed to be always wet or not? If always dry, you should decrease the extent of the model and move the coastline,
- try coarser meshes to see if you get the same behaviour or not (e.g. with quite regular elements).

Thank you a lot, I will do this, and I go back to you.
I would like not to stop the mesh at the coastline to quantify the flooding beyond (like the attached picture).

Is it still possible to use COASTLINE IBCOEF COEF_LATERAL COEF_LONGITUDINAL in the steering file ? I don't find the keyword in the reference manual

IBCOEF is an integer that indicates the number of the subdomain in the mesh where the coastline is located.
COEF_LATERAL is a lateral friction coefficient that models the exchange of momentum between the water and the land along the coastline.
COEF_LONGITUDINAL is a longitudinal friction coefficient that models the exchange of momentum between the water and the land across the coastline.

Hello Mathieu,

I tried to run the files you sent. You do not seem to use the latest release as I was not able to run without modifying a few choices:
- English for INITIAL CONDITIONS : 'ZERO ELEVATION',
- SOLVER FOR PPE = 1 with PRECONDITIONING FOR PPE = 34 or SOLVER FOR PPE = 7 (i.e. GMRES, new default value since v8p0) with PRECONDITIONING FOR PPE = 2 (17 is not possible with GMRES).

Please also upgrade your version of TELEMAC to the latest available (v8p4r0) as we do not assist old releases (there are new features and bug fixes in the latest release).

Anyway, I do not know what keywords you mean with "COASTLINE IBCOEF COEF_LATERAL COEF_LONGITUDINAL in the steering file". In which code and which release would you use them?

Indeed, I use the version v8p0r0, but i'll be installing the latest.
For the mesh, it is better that I decrease the resolution in the open sea?

I made separate launches of Telemac3D and Tomawac, then I modified the files to couple the two codes by simplifying them a maximum, and it works. I send the files if needed.
