Hello.
I am trying to model a salt wedge in a river estuary.
I would like to have a sharper interface between high salinity and freshwater in my results. While here I have a high mixing and several kilometers of intermediate salinity (see picture).
What can I change ?
I attach my .cas file.
Thank you very much
Giulia

Hello,

There are too many things to play with :)

Check your boundary condition:

PRESCRIBED ELEVATIONS = 0;0
PRESCRIBED FLOWRATES = 0;3.0

Where water should go on the first boundary? To start with you can try to set river discharge on one end and set free sea level on both end (check you .cli file, and set code 4 for the level)

Good luck

Hello Giulia,

If I were you, I would read the recommendation appendix (E) and would try a few tips (maybe not suitable to your model, but let's try):
- IMPLICITATION FOR DEPTH = 0.55 (default), 0.6 or a value up to 0.9
- IMPLICITATION FOR VELOCITIES = 0.55 (default), 0.6 or a value up to 0.9

I would also change the vertical turbulence model rather than constant viscosity along the vertical:
e.g. VERTICAL TURBULENCE MODEL = 3 (k-epsilon). You can also try = 2 (mixing length) and try different mixing length models (perhaps with damping function). I do not know if they could suit your model, but you can also try = 5 (Spalart-Allmaras) or = 7 (k-omega). You can also try what is available in the GOTM library.

Hope this helps,

Chi-Tuan
