Dear users

I would like to model a constant discharge with 135 psu of salinity and 80 degrees celsius of temperature. I have already tried using density law 3 (takes into account both temperature and salinity) and density law 4 (with beta dilatation coefficients).

In both cases results give a maximun salinity of 42 psu and temperature 28 near the point of discharge. I suspect there is a limit in salinity and temperature.

Would you have some suggestions?

Ipan noyolo ipan no ilhui (in my hart, in my mind) mexican greetings

Hola Victor!

It depends whether the discharge is a boundary or a source point. If it is a source the discharge gives the correct quantity of salt, but the value in the results is an average over the surrounding elements, so you will never find exactly the imposed values at the source. However the quantity of salt discharge will be correct.

Que te vaya bien!

Hola querido amigo

This is a point discharge. I did a test imposing high salinity (135psu) and 40deg C in one boundary just to see the concentration; initial values are temp=25 and Salinity=36. The result shows initial conditions values in the boundary. I made a run with density law 3 there I supose that the limits for salinity and temperature is 40psu and 40degC. Thats why I change to beta coefficients (densuity law 4), but still the concentrations are ver low. Around the discharge you can see some increase but I have doubts if they are correct.

Let me add my files if you have a chance to see.

Dear users

Just to update on the solution of my concern about the concentrations of salinity and temperature. I have made a test using salinity=50 psu and Temperature=50degC as initial conditions i¿on the full domain. In the source I used salinity=135psu and Temp=60degC. The results show the values of salinity anf Temp sightly above the initial conditionvalues.

So Telemac 3D takes into account the correct values of salinity and temperatue when using beta coefficients with density law option 4.
