Hi,

I am running a TELEMAC 3d simulation in deep sea region. The maximum depth in the region is 5000 m. I am using TPXO model derived elevation for forcing at the boundaries, and NCEP wind.

The current magnitude and direction on the surface layer of the model results shows very good comparison with magnitude and direction.

The current direction in the deeper layers in the observed data shows a change in direction.

TELEMAC 3D predicted currents magnitude matches with observed current data magnitude, but owing to the change direction of current at deep layer, the direction does not match. The direction at deeper layers remains the same as the top surface layer.

Is there any method to achieve this feature for a model run using Telemac3D, so that the change is current direction in deeper layer is also captured.

I have attached the steering file.

Hi,

You could try introducing stratification - a simple two layer arrangement with a denser deeper layer - (maintaining assumption of a neutrally stratified fluid) or increasing substantially friction on the bottom. It still depends at which depth you 'want' to observe the change in direction.

On an idealised approach wind would preferably be unidirectional.
