Is it possible to configure the hydrodynamic programs to run particle tracking and/or tracer simulations using pre-calculated hydrodynamics.

Or would I need to create a new version to do this. There are a number of situations where this would be very useful.

I have done this in FVCOM previously, reprogramming the control logic. Of course for offline tracer it is necessary to be able to output from the hydrodynamics not u and v but mass conservative qu and qv that integrate the instantaneous values between saved water levels results.

Thanks

Hello,

This has not been done yet, the problem is that for doing it properly you would need to save all the time steps of the computation. Another possibility would be to use a post-processor, I'm sure that BlueKenue can do that ?

Yes, it is possible to use the PSed module of Blue Kenue to model particle tracks but it only works with 2D hydrodynamics.

I disagree that all timesteps need to be saved.

For tracer - you need to save mass conservative flow and depth info - which can be easily done. Did it for FVCOM. I am assuming that this has to be done for delwaq support. delwaq could do what I want for tracer.

For particle tracks - we are discretising the velocity field in time so careful time integration (possibly using subtimesteps) with the saved results is necesary. Suitable output intervals must be consistent with the processes being modelled of course.
