Hi

I am running a harbour simulation and find very different results between constant depth and constant elevation. I cant find any information as to the differences, can you explain the difference. Constant elevation seems to be in the port simulation example. In my case constant elevation allows waves to break in shallower depths than constant depth.

Thanks

According to the latest latex manual compiled from the sources:
‘CONSTANT ELEVATION’: Initialises the elevation of the free surface at the value supplied by the key word INITIAL ELEVATION. The initial depths of water are therefore calculated by taking the difference between the free surface elevation and the bottom elevation.
‘CONSTANT DEPTH’: Initialises depths of water at the value supplied by the key word
INITIAL DEPTH.

Hi

Yes sorry I read this in the manual but misunderstood, so constant depth disregards the bathymetry and runs the simulation for a constant depth throughout the domain? Say 4m. Whilst constant elevation takes into account the bathymetry by adding the initial elevation to the bathymetric depth (so in my case 4m initial depth + 20m bathymetric depth, water depth is 24m at that bathymetric point).

Thanks for your reply.

This is how I understand it too.
