Hi everybody,

I don't understand the difference between those three variables.
C CELERITY (M/S), UVW VELOCITIES (M/S), M NORM OF VELOCITIES (M/S).
precisely why they are not same (equal) in their magnitude.

In an other hand, I computed a TPXO simulation with the help of pham and sorrymaker, even if I found the magnitude of "CELERITY (M/S)" almost suitable, UV VELOCITIES don't show in some parts the adequate directions (according me) of currents (maybe because they are close to the liquid boundary). for W velocity, I see vertical arrows but i don't see where they go, upward or downward.

thanks for all

Hi josiastud,

Concerning your first question, here are some details about the variables:
  • C CELERITY (M/S) : is a 2D variable computed as sqrt(g*H)
  • UVW VELOCITIES (M/S) : is a 3D variable (velocity along a direction : East, North and "Vertical")
  • M NORM OF VELOCITIES (M/S) : is a 3D variable which is the magnitude of the 3D velocity (sqrt(U²+V²+W²))

Hope it helps,
Luc

hi luc, thanks,

please, I want to fill the dots : if a current meter measures a magnitude, what does it measure? I ask that because i want to know what the measured coastal currents is related to...

by the way, is there a link between 'celerity' and 'norm of velocity', theoretically or practically.

sorry if I am driving you away of the topic.

thanks

josias
