Hi,

I'm a beginner in using BlueKenue and we will do a simulation of a forest slope at very high resolution (10cm).
I'm wondering if it is possible/recommandable to include trees in the mesh by cutting the mesh and creating holes (we did similar things in SMS for houses) or if it is more convenient to include the trees in the TELEMAC-2D model (as vertical structure).

Thanks for any hints or experiences with modeling forests in TELEMAC!

Hello,

it depends. If your mesh resolution is 10 cm and, roughly spoken, the diameter of your trees is equal or bigger than your mesh resolution, than you can include the trees directly in the mesh. However, I would recommend to discretize the tree with several mesh nodes in order to compute a reasonable drag force.

The option with vertical structures is convenient if the structure is (much) smaller than the local mesh size. Than you have to estimate the drag force coefficient from literature etc.
