Hi,
I am trying to create a SELAFIN with Wind Along X and Wind Along Y. My first question would be what file format do I need to later create a 'Map Object' with both Wind Along X and Wind Along Y?

I now have wind data that is spatially resolved, including time steps (I am modeling 6 days and need the wind data for this) in a grb format from the German weather service, unfortunately I get an error when loading via File -> Import -> WMO Grib Files (error message attached). Can you tell me why I can't load the file?

I also do have the wind already as Wind Along X and Wind Along Y as a vector file which I can upload in BlueKenue, but not attach zu my SELAFIN...(file also attached)

In which format does it have to be or is there an easier method to integrate my wind temporally and spatially over a period of time in BlueKenue?

Thank you very much for your help and I look forward to hearing from you!

Hi
Your question is about Blue Kenue so please post it in the right topic! (As a moderator, I moved it)
I don't know how to do this with BK but look at python scripts as there is already converter existing for atmospheric data...

It's part of the conversion options so start from converter.py option generate_atm and follow the links...

Thank you, I found it and was trying to run it, but to make sure I got it write and can run the script.
geo-file is my mesh,
slf-file my grb file or vecotor file with my Wind along X and Y and
the atm-file my output file.
But what is the --ll2utm file?

Thank you! I appreciate any help or ideas!

Hi
Did you try to run the script with -h option?
This will print the help...
--ll2utm is not a file but an option to manage the potential difference of coordinate system between mesh and atmospheric data file...
slf-file is the atmospheric data file in slf format but on a different mesh.
In your case, there is an extra step required to convert grib file to slf file.
I forgot to mention it but thinking you could see it when you dive into the converter.py... look at ecmwf2srf...

If you want...

Please try the most recent alpha version (see this post for how to get it) and let me know how it goes.

I'd also look at "Map File(s)..." as that may be closer than "Map Object..." to what you want to do.

Kindly,
Alan

Hi thank you. I downloaded the way newer version, but I still cannot open my grib file or map objects with my vector t2s file.

I have probably made a mistake somewhere. Is there an easier way to include variable wind in time and space in BlueKenue than what I am trying to do?

I thought I would just create a SELAFIN on my old mesh and 'feed' it with data like I do with BOTTOM and BOTTOM Friction. However, I'm wondering if it all makes sense and if Grib data is the right one (if I can get it loaded into BlueKenue)?

I appreciate any help or ideas!

I read your message again and the exact process does not (yet) exist in Blue Kenue for what I was thinking.

A few years ago, in Green Kenue, I added the ability to map multiple grib files onto a Rect 2D Scalar... yielding a multi-frame Rect 2D Scalar where each frame was, in essence, a Map Object from the file onto the grid. In this case, File > New > Regular Grid... kicks things off with a grid that has no values... only the x,y co-ordinates of the grid itself. That work was mapping multiple grib files containing precip. At that time, Blue Kenue also gained that new functionality.

In your case, you I'd imagine that you would start with a mesh that has no values and then you'd want to do something very similar... map each grib file onto the mesh as a new frame. So that you'd end up with a multi-frame 2D mesh.

There a a few things that I'm checking on and that I'd like to add to Blue Kenue to make this possible for you and anyone else wishing to map wind, precipitation, etc. from grib files onto a 2D mesh.

That being said, this approach is not (yet) available and has been sitting on my TODO list for a while. If your need is urgent, then I'd suggest looking to a script approach... sorry.

Kindly,
Alan

Also... if there are files that you cannot import then please let me know. The newer version is an alpha and still being fine tuned in certain areas.

Kindly,
Alan
