TOPIC: Renumber nodes?

Renumber nodes? 1 month 4 weeks ago #45546

Hi there,

I've created a mesh using the T3 Mesh Generator, which includes a submesh for the main channel generated using the T3 Channel Mesher. See attached image, I'm noticing that the number order of the nodes jumps around alot, for instance at the upstream boundary (left to right) it goes 4, 3, 4209, 4209, ..., 2, 1.

Is there a way to reorder the mesh nodes so they are more sequential? For instance, and the upstream boundary I would prefer if they read 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc.

Thank you

Welcome aboard!

The node number is just that... a number associated with a node. Any functional reason why you're asking for this to be renumbered?

I could imagine someone wanting a few different numberings:
  • the Northern most node should be 1, then renumber West to East going South
  • the upstream node numbers should be lower than the downstream numbers
  • something else...

The shape of a particular mesh and its use would determine the "best" renumbering scheme. Both of which are very hard to easily "get right".

If you can convince me why a partial ordering of the node numbers are important for modellers, then I'd be willing to entertain the idea of doing something. Otherwise, renumbering the nodes doesn't seem... um... very productive...

No ill will intended!

Kindly... Alan
