TOPIC: Question of generating heavy mesh in Urban Area

Dear Martin:

Now I'm generating the mesh with the file you post here.

Just one more question, as you mentioned here, in my "Density" I directly put the xyz file which export from the raster file by ArcGIS, hence, some points have very high elevation, and negative elevation.

So I would like to ask you here, is it better to modify these points before generating the mesh? For example, give them same elevation value like 1 for every points. Then after the mesh generated, coupled the elevation points and mesh to get the final mesh.

Best wishes,

Hi Qiang,

The density object is a collection of points, polygons, grid, meshes that provide a spatial distribution of element edge lengths. The units of all data in this object MUST be in units of edge length.
You DO NOT want to include elevation data in this object.

Have a look at the mesh that results from running the t3m files I posted.
You will then want to use the pointset as input data to the interpolator for mapping elevations to the mesh.

1. "File->New->2D Intepolator"
2. Drag the pointset onto the new interpolator
3. select your mesh in the workspace.
4. "Tools->MapObject" and select the interpolator as source data.

Dear Martin:

Thanks for your reply. I'm generating the mesh from the file you post. It will take some time.

I'm still not very clear about your explaination of "Density".

You said:"The units of all data in this object MUST be in units of edge length. You DO NOT want to include elevation data in this object." And before you mentioned "you included the very large elevation pointset as hard points. Some of these points had negative values which caused problems with generating nodes." But in my mesh generation, I haven't used the "Hard points", I only used "Outline" for the outline, "Density" for the xyz file, and "Hardline" for the Polygon of the building. Do I need to use the "Hard points" instead of "Density" for carry the xyz file? Last time I try it, the result waas not good.

Also as I understood, because the first step is just create the mesh, now I'm running one case of new the xyz file of changing the elevation of each point equal to 1m. This is just for the first step of generating the mesh. Is it ok?

Or I don't need to modify the elevation of the points in the xyz file (from 39m to -0.89m), just input the xyz file to the Density to generate the mesh?

In the t3m file you post, there are only outline and hardline, I'm still not very clear, Do I just input my original xyz file(like I sent you) in the "Density" to run, or I need to modify something?

Look forward for your reply.
Thanks a lot.

Best wishes,

Run the t3m files just as I posted them.
Do NOT include the pointsets.
