How does Fudaa calculate the volume ? 12 years 6 months ago #4420

Hello !

If someone knows how does fudaa calculate the volume (with the icon "calculate volume") ?
I don't understand how it works, I don't understand physically how it can calculate a volume on a node !

I have a second question, linked to the first one. With fudaa, I would like to calcultate the flow in m3/s but it only gives the flow in m2/s. So, in order to calculate the m3/s-flow, to summarize I used the m2/s-flow that I multiplied by the length of a section I chose.

But I tried a second method by using the volume. I selected the nodes of my section and calculate the volume on it. By dividing by the time I had the m3/s-flow.

However, I had very different results between the two methods and I don't understand why. Do you have any idea ?

Hi

As it was already said in the forum, the flow in fudaa is in m3/s. The graphic value with the m2/s comment is an error.

For the first question, the volume is computed with the water height at the node multiply by the Finite Element Bases which is an elemental function which is equal to 1 at the node and 0 at all other nodes.
So at the considered nodes, in each triangle linked to this node, you could compute the volume of a tetrahedron which finaly gives you the volume at the node.

Hope this helps
Christophe

Hello !

Sorry for answering so late... My apologies !

Thank you for the answer for the calcul of the volume on a node ! But in that case, if I want to calculate the volume on a certain domain, it will "miss" a part of the real volume no ?

I don't completely agree with you when you say the flow in fudaa is in m3/s. Because if it is the case I have a flow of 700m3/s whereas it should be about 10000m3/s. Maybe I use the wrong variable, what variable do I have to use ?
