hi everybody.

im looking for a python script to convert/read a selafin file for telemac2d.

my goal is to extract the velocity and depth values for every node whit x,y coordinates for a montecarlo simulation (+1000) file , so using the postelemac , crayfish is not efficient.

i have search the forum and found some old post form almost 2 years ago saying that there is such scripts but they area being still work on.

i hope there is some news on this aspect, and i would really appreciate if someone could help me put here.

grettings,
chelo.

Hello Chelo,

Have a look at this thread. It really helped me to get going with reading SELAFIN files with python.

Costas

Dear Costas,

is there any chance that behind the scenes someone is making a good how-to or docs about the scripts shipped with telemac?

I've been quite excited lately about scripting in telemac (using Pat Prodanovic's scripts as a base, not the ones shipped with the build) and I'm starting to think that most of the cool stuff of telemac aren't documented at all!

Regards,

José D.

Hello José,

Thanks for the kind words. What you are looking for is absolutely possible, and fairly easy to do. Let me know how it goes. I'll be glad to help out if I can.

Pat

P.S. I am in the process of writing a detailed manual on this subject. I'll pass it on once I have it done.

Dear Jose,

Last time a similar question emerged in a discussion, python scripts were described as being constantly under development and as such, no documentation could be put together.

But that was some time ago, and development could be somewhat consolidated. I don't know if there is a branch where documentation from python scripts is being put down. So far nothing has showed up in the trunk. Maybe a developer could answer that.

I totally agree with you that python is very powerful and most of the scripts potential lies in the shadows. A documentation and simple tutorials that demonstrate the scripts functionality would be greatly valued from all users.

Regards,
Costas

Hello python scripters,

Indeed, we have been promising this for some time now but so far fail to find the time to do it.

An avenue we are looking into is a participative documentation (wiki-based) so every body can do a little. The wiki itself will be linked to the Latex version of the documentation of the entire TELEMAC system and two-way python scripts will help updating one with the other and vice-versa.

With that said, we strongly recommend that your own script links (import and/or sys.path) to the TELEMAC scripts as these may still change form time to time.

Best regards,
Sébastien.
