Hello

I am using telemac 2D Vp71 for a hydrodynamic simulation. At this stage I have been calibrated the model. So that, I would like to change the bottom coefficient by area. I have 11 areas that I would like to set up differently.

I am using blue kenue for pre-processing my mesh and vary the Bottom coefficient and I have followed the next process to do it.

For simple variable friction coefficient, I use Bluekenue.

1. Draw a closed polygon around a region of your domain that you want a different friction coeff.

2. When your done, assign as elevation of the polygon the value of friction parameter that you want.

3. Create a geo file. Add variable BOTTOM FRICTION and use BK map object function to attach the polygon to BOTTOM FRICTION mesh.

However when I ran the simulation in Telemac the Bottom coefficient values I set up are not identify from my geo file. Therefore my question are:

What should I do in order to telemac read the Bottom coefficient values from my geo file instead of the cas file.

Is there a procedure to set up this value (using manning law)?

In addition, I have tried to use both words in my cas file
Botton coefficient and friction coefficient. However telemac is not reading the values I set up in my geo file thought the process I described previously.

Hi
the method is ok
Try to put the friction in the output file to check
You could also looks to the listing file to see if some mention to the friction coefficient appear

Hello

I have included the legend friction coefficient in my steering file. I am expecting that the value is ignored from it and Telemac consider the bottom coefficient values that I previously set up in my geo file. However, Telemac is not taking them.

In addition, When I run the simulation there is not message for the listing file.

Could you please help me to sort this problem out?

Note: as you can see in my geo file all bottom coefficient variables has been set up correctly.

Thanks
Joel

If we would try to test your case, we need your boundary condition file

Hi

I've got it

In your geometry file you should have only one bottom friction variable and not 11 as in your case otherwise telemac will consider only the first one.
You should map all you polygons in the same variable and then this will works.

Hello Christophe

I will try to do it.

With regards to the method to change the manning coefficient do you have any information about it?

I would not invest a lot of time changing the bottom coefficient value as random because it will take me a long time to choose the correct one. I would like to follow a methodology or a method to do it.

Thanks

Hello Christophe

I have followed your recommendation. I have mapped all the polygons that include different bottom coefficient values. However Telemac is not still reading the values from the geo.file.

I did the follow:

1. I created a new variable into my geo file called BOTTOM FRICTION.
2. I mapped the polygons as select the polygon>tools>map object> and I selected BOTTOM FRICTION. I did this process for the eleven polygons

It is important to mention that every time I do step 2 a new 3D variable is generated.

Could you please help me to sort this problem out? Have I done something incorrect?

Thanks
Joel

Hi
you do it in the wrong way!
Create the bottom friction with the default value of your case
Select the layer bottom friction and map the polygon onto it (tools>map objects > choose the polygon with value of bottom friction
If you have separate polygons you have to repeat this mapping
