Hello

In the last months I worked with a 2D model using Telemac and it is working properly with a very promising results. However I need to convert it into 3D but I have no idea what is the process to do it.

Do you have any recommendation?

Thanks

Joel

Hello

What do you mean by "convert into 3D". You want to switch from telemac2d to telemac3D or you want only to post-process your results in a 3D way?
if you want to switch from T2D to T3D you need to follow an example in the validation folder of Telemac 2D and Telemac-3D. For instance, the case Malpasset exists in 2D and in 3D. Moreover, they use the same geometry file, you can adapt the steering file to your case.

with kind regards

Riadh

Hello Riadh

Firstly, Thank you very much for your reply.

Yes, I want to switch my model into 3D

I have checked the validation folder on 2D and 3D and there are only text files without any directions. I have also checked the Malpasset folder and I can see to issues: a) the geometry file is in 3D so that Do I need to convert my Geo file into 3D? b)The Telemac manual state that I need to replicate vertically my mesh. Is that correct.

My second question is: Is there any detailed procedure (step by step) which describe all the requirements or activities to switch from 2D to 3D

Very sorry If I am not clear but I have use only Telemac 2D for a short time.

Regards

Joel

Hi Joel,

What I think Riadh wanted to say is to look at validation files (.PDF for t2d and t3d, which are located in the documentation folder), these have a description (reference, geometry and mesh, physical parameters, etc.) about some examples (geometry, steering and boundary conditions files, etc. are in the into examples folder).

Malpasset is one of the cases, which are ran with t2d and t3d. Thus, it could be helpful to compare the analysis for the same case with t2d and t3d, as a starting point.

If you do not have those PDF validation files you can download it from the svn repository, find the links below

svn.opentelemac.org/svn/opentelemac/tags...elemac3d/validation/

svn.opentelemac.org/svn/opentelemac/tags...elemac2d/validation/

I am not sure at all this is what Riadh wanted to say, but I hope it helps.

Cheers,

José

Hello Joel,

If you can use TELEMAC-2D, it is not too difficult to use TELEMAC-3D. Many things are common for these 2 codes.
Except the FORTRAN FILE and the STEERING FILE, you can use the same input data. Many keywords are the same for these 2 software. You have some specificities for the 3D, with sometimes different treatments on the horizontal directions or the vertical direction.

I do not have in mind any document which describes a procedure to change a 2D model to a 3D one step by step. As told in many topics, you can look at the examples and start from one of them which is close to what you want to model.

Anyway, if it helps you, you can find enclosed the slides of a lecture that I give to show how it is rather easy to use TELEMAC-3D when you can use TELEMAC-2D... if you can read French.

Hope this helps,

Chi-Tuan
