Hello all,

I'm running a model of the entire Irish Sea. However, the validation shows a problem (20% error, NRMSE)in the Menai Strait (North Wales). It seems that if I change the bathymetry (increas depth), the validation is better in the Menai strait however its a fake bathymetry... So i come to the conclusion that the problem must come from the bed roughness manning coefficient.

My question: I want to increase the bed rougness coefficent but only in the menai strait not in all the Irish Sea. Does anybody know how can I do that in my cas file?

Thank you

Jonathan

Ideally, I'm thinking of unsing the manning coeeficient for the Irish Sea and the Nikuradse coefficient for the Menai strait.... Is it possible to write down this in the cas file? if not i would like to use only the manning coefficient for all the mesh but with variation.

You can vary the BOTTOM FRICTION of a mesh within BlueKenue.
Open selafin file and add variable BOTTOM FRICTION which you can then map object to have different friction across the domain. (No need to do with cas file)

Thank you for your answer but If I run the model in Telemac, will be a conflict between cas file and selafin file while it will run?

There shouldn't be?
Just a reference to the slf geometry file is needed in the .cas
There will just be both Bottom and Bottom Friction variable within the slf in BlueKenue

Hello,

You can leave it blank. There shouldn't be any issue. Also, the bottom friction value in the cas file gets overriden by the SLF one.

Hello

you can use also the subroutine strche.f in which you can define a polygon and then use the function inpoly to distinguish inner and outer region of the polygon.

with my best regard

Riadh
