Hi

Not specifically a 2d problem, however:

I am wondering if anyone has a technique to extract values points from a model (velocity etc) specified by a set of points which have a position and a time.

I have a list of points (>300), each point has a position x,y and timestamp,
too many for manual extraction of time series via blue kenue. Im looking for a way to extract the velocity value from the model at each point at each timestamp point.

I am looking at Matlab for a solution but if anyone has another idea this would be great. This would assist in matching detection's (bird detection's in this example)or other field measured sample points in an easy way rather than manual matching using blue kenue. Many thanks for any ideas.

Hi
Different possibilities exists...
With the result and a layer of points you could extract results with the QGIS PostTelemac plugin (but for all timestep). An export to Excel will allow you to filter the result to the required timestamp.

You could also create small program in Python to make this treatment directly from the result file (you could look in the ParserSelafin where some functions already exists...

Have a look at the Blue Kenue menu item
"Tools->Extract TimeSeries->At Multiple Points"

You supply a xyz object and a table object is
created containing the timeseries at every point.

The table object can then be saved in various formats.

Hope this helps... Martin

Yes thank, have normally done this before with a few time series, it is just the vast number of points i have, which only require matched to a single time-step and position. (>1000 individual points in the first file of 10 i am looking at). The model is in 2 min intervals covering 7 days. Extracting that much data then matching using excel is not efficient. Ideally I am looking for a way to extract a single velocity value based on a points spatial position and the temporal position, time stamp attributed to the point for each point in the field dataset.

Thanks.

Hi,
using TECPLOT,you can save the variables at a specific time, then filter for the points your interseted.
