Hello,

I am trying to use the new fluxline option to extract discharge at a particular section. In the steering file, I specify:

FLUXLINE = YES
FLUXLINE INPUT FILE = 'uni_fluxlines.txt'

where 'uni_fluxlines.txt' is a formatted file that defines the coordinates of the bounding box, and the cross section line (only 1 in my case). This fluxline is really close to the inflow, so the result should be nearly identical to the specified inflow. See attached graphic.

The simulation runs to completion, but all I am able to get from the listing file(s) are zeros. I tried serial and parallel, with the same results. I also tried v7p2 and v7p3.

If I use the old method, and specify the sections with:

SECTIONS INPUT FILE = 'uni_sections.txt'
SECTIONS OUTPUT FILE = 'uni_sections_out.txt'

all works as expected.

Can someone let me know how to recover the discharges using the new fluxline method. Attached example provides my test case.

Thanks,

Pat

Hello Pat

It was a real bug. But you have also a small part of responsability with your file of fluxline.
Please find attached a patch for this bug. You will see it will work with v7p2. I will add a fix to v7p3 and the trunk next week.
You will see that with your input file, the flux result is always 0. This is due to the fact that with the choice of the box coordinates, there is no complete element that belongs FULLY to the box. This induces that, there is no any computation of flux. If you enlargen the box (please find an example in the attached file), you will see that the flux is accurately computed.
I will also add a warning to the source code to avoid such situation.

I hope that this helps

with my best regards

Riadh
