Hello community,

Can T2D simulate debris flows? Is there any way to configure the program to approximate this type of flow?

Thank you very much for your helps,

Diego

Hello Diego

This feature in on our todo list, but we do not have time to achieve it.
It will not need a huge amount of development. You need to integrate a new non-newtonian viscosity which will be added to the diffusion part. Moreover you need also to introudce a new friction law (or another source term) that takes into accound for this non-newtonian behaviour.

If you have time to do this, I will be pleased to assist your developments.

with my kind regards

Riadh, I assume updating to non-newtonian viscosity will also be helpful to model oil spill overland (not in waterbodies). For light crude oil, the overland oil flow will behave similar to water, but heavy crude oil will be completely different - mainly laminar flow. Not sure whether I have sufficient knowledge to develop this, but I am more than happy to try it. Can you send me some documentation for me to start? I have a hard copy of the programming guide, do you have any recommendation for the non-newtonian fluid flow? Thanks

Hello Hailiang

Yes crude oil flow on overland could be an extreme case of non newtonian flow even though I presume that, at least as a first approximation, you can start with a huge viscosity valued and a big friction coefficient to modelize such flow.
I will send you some documents by email to start with theoretical aspects. In a later step, we can chat together (and with interested partners) to define properly development and integration procedure.
I'm sure that this topic will interest lots of people from the TELEMAC community.

kind regards
Riadh

Hello community,

Can T2D simulate debris flows in river channels? Is it the same as oil spill module or is there any way to configure the program to approximate this type of flow?

Thank you very much for your respond
