Dear Telemac Users,
I would be grateful if someone could confirm that I understand correctly the rule to determine the flow direction through a control section:
In the attached sketch, the numbers 1 and 2 represent the beginning and the end of a section, respectively. “A” is the control-section on the left and “B” is the control-section on the right. If the flow goes from left to right (see arrows), I assume the sign of the discharge is positive for the control-section A and negative for the control-section B.
Is that correct?
Cheers,
Claire

Hi ClaireBeraud, the discharge is going in the same direction in both control sections, so it would be positive at both or negative at both depending on how you define.

Thanks for you reply.
You mean how I define the control section?
From the manual, I understand that the sign of the flow would be different depending on which extremity of the control section you write first.
So in my sketch, I should have a positive and a negative flow at each control section (because the beginning and end point are reversed), even if the flow is going in the same direction.
Do you agree? How do you understand the rule on the manual?

Thanks,
CLaire

Yes, that is it.
«The sign is determined with the following rule: going from the beginning to the
ending point of the section, the flow is positive when going from right to left.»
Your flow at A should be positive when you define point 1 as the beginning.
