TOPIC: Weir implementation with different upstream and downstream water depth

Weir implementation with different upstream and downstream water depth 5 years 9 months ago #32928

Hi,

I'm trying to simulate a simple case of a straight channel with a weir. I used 'weir.txt' to define the weir boundaries and condin.f to correct the initial water depth on the downstream to '0'. I ran a simple still water level case without any discharge or velocity. However, I'm getting negative depths with time in the simulation. I've attached my simulation files below. Please suggest me possible modifications. Thanks

Did you have a look at the weirs example?
Your mesh doesn't look good, there is no 'separation' of the mesh at the locaiton of the weir, as in the example. Nor are boundary points connected as they should.

Thanks EnGlobe, I shall try that!

Hi EnGlobe,

I tried to use modified condin to simulate a case similar to dam break where there is no weir in the channel but half the channel is initialized with constant depth and other half with zero depth. When I run the simulation, it is expected that the water drains from one half to the half. The model seems to initialize water depths correctly as shown in fig below. However, The time series of water level in the regions with initial zero depth seems to show some negative values before reaching a constant depth throughout the channel. Figure attached below. Why do the negative depths occur? Thanks!
