I am now trying to understand the way telemac2d treats tidal flats. However, what I get from the user guide is simply:
0: no treatment
1: smoothing of negative depth
2: "Flux control". This treatment means that some fluxes between points may be limited to avoid negative depths

When I go to the telemac2d theory guide, I got brief introduction for how telemac modifies the surface water gradient of "half-wet" cells. However, it does not answer my questions as to (i) on what basis such modification is done; (ii) how exactly it is done; (iii) is it an acceptable method.

Please suggest me to the correct literature for me to answer the questions.

Hello,

Can you tell me what you call "telemac2d theory guide" and where you found it please? Is it www.opentelemac.org/index.php/manuals/su...emac-2d/31-prin30-gb or something else?

Anyway, the main reference for developments in TELEMAC-2D before 2007 is Jean-Michel Hervouet's book: Hydrodynamics of free surface flows: Modelling with the finite element method, see e.g. www.opentelemac.org/index.php/publications
For TELEMAC-2D, if there have been new features since 2007, you can read the release notes from v5p8, associated with each release and available on this website.
You can also have a look to IAHR 2011 conference paper by Hervouet, Razafindrakoto and Villaret, Dealing with dry zones in free surface flows: a new class of advection schemes.

Anyway, for you (ii), even if reading literature and if details are described, reading the source code is the best answer to know what is exactly done!

Hope this helps,

Chi-Tuan

To answer your question,
(i) Yes, "theory guide" refers to the link you posted.
(ii) I have just ordered that book from Amazon. Thanks. Then conference paper, I am struggling whether I should buy it .....

Hello,

As told by the author himself, see www.opentelemac.org/index.php/community-...ame-and-abbreviation

before buying the article, you can read the release notes, e.g. the 6.0 ones:
www.opentelemac.org/index.php/archive/su.../98-release-notes-60

(raisable from Home menu at the top, Manual at the bottom, Archive on the right (only available if logged in), then the release.

Do not hesitate to read the other ones if something new was implemented.

Hope this helps,

Just to let you know, the document refered to the posted link was first written in 1995 and TELEMAC-2D has changed a lot since that year, in particular with the introduction of the TREATMENT FOR NEGATIVE DEPTHS keyword and its option 2.
