TOPIC: Weir Subroutine - Disconnected (or not) meshes

Weir Subroutine - Disconnected (or not) meshes 3 years 6 months ago #38539

Hi all,

My question concerns the representation of a weir inside a mesh.

The weir example provided with the Telemac documentation uses the weir subroutine to connect multiple separated (or disconnected) meshes. I have been surveying the forum as well as the user manual and it is sometimes suggested but never explicitly said that it is mandatory to have disconnected meshes.

So my question is pretty straight forward:

"Is possible to use the weir subroutine inside a unique mesh, for example through an island whose borders would be the same as those of the actual structure?"

Obviously I have tried but did not succeed, which is why I'm posting this question.

Many thanks in advance to anyone could put some time in my request!

Cheers,
Basile

Hi
There is no obligation to have disconnected mesh to use weirs. It's possible to use this facility with an island at the place of the weir.
The only limitation should be to have one node which is not part of the weir on left and right side of the weir to ensure to have 2 different boundaries upstream and downstream
Hope this helps

Hi Christophe,

This will definitely help. Just a few clarifications:

Do the upstream and downstream boundary conditions have to be declared through the .cli file to be used as a weir?

Is the extra node on both side of the weir a minimum or a fix value, i.e., can I have more than one node on both side?

Many thanks,
Basile

Hi
As all island the nodes should appear in the .cli file but you don't have to define them as liquid nodes
The extra node on both side is a minimum value, you could have more than one
