Hello,
I want to model the current duringa tidal cycle of 14 days around an emplacement of a new projected port, the model will take in account tide and wind and will be calibrated with measured currents and water levels on site in a point with a depth of 20m/ZH (zero hydrographique). I'll have to couple later that model with gaia (or sisyphe) and tomawac to define the sediment regime and the risk ouf sedimentation.
I have some questions about the model. Would anyone be so kind as to answer them ?
1) I don't know how to choose the extension of my model, in particular to which depth should I go on the offshore limit.
2) I want to know if it would be more suitable to choose telemac 3d or 2d for currents and what would influence that choice.
3) I also want to know if there are any examples of similar studies on the validation folder so that l can have a look at their cas files.
Best regards,
Mehdi

Hello Mehdi,

Hard to answer to your 1st question without any knowledge of the area you want to model (strong currents? shallow water? etc).

Choosing TELEMAC-2D or TELEMAC-3D depends on what kind of currents there are on the area. 3D currents or rather homogeneous currents over the vertical? If you can use a cluster or a good computer you can run TELEMAC-3D computations, otherwise it may take you time to run some.

You have examples of steering files to model tide in the tide examples for TELEMAC-2D and TELEMAC-3D in $HOMETEL/examples/telemac2d/tide or $HOMETEL/examples/telemac3d/tide
You also have examples of triple coupling (TELEMAC/GAIA/TOMAWAC) in the littoral example $HOMETEL/examples/gaia/littoral-t2d-tom

Please also read the TELEMAC-2D, TELEMAC-3D or GAIA validation manuals.

Hope this helps,

Chi-Tuan
