Hi, TELEMAC Community and Moderators

Previously, I posted about irregularities of velocity. I got better results using either TPXO 8 atlas or TPXO Indian Ocean 2010. I used FREE SURFACE GRADIENT COMPATIBILITY = 0 and no more wiggles (although it sounds artificial, as long as it is physically correct, I guess it is fine). However, there are some abnormalities of free surface elevation on the closed boundary as shown in the attachments.

Questions:
1. What could I do to suppress wiggles instead of using FREE SURFACE GRADIENT COMPATIBILITY = 0? I used DISCRETIZATIONS IN SPACE: 12;11 and the results got worse. I am afraid there are some problems that I have to resolve instead of using these approaches.
2. What should I do to fix the high free surface elevation?
3. Do closed boundaries must have 0 elevation?

Thanks everyone!

Hi
I had a quick look to your mesh
Could you look if those anomalies are not related to high values of bathymetry?
Maybe the values of TPXO are not good enough with such bathymetry...

Hope this helps

Hi Christophe,

Thank you so much for your reply.

By high values of bathymetry, do you mean some waters are too deep and some are too shallow? How could I check whether the anomalies are related to that? Should I make the mesh smaller?

And also, instead of TPXO, what other option would you suggest for Indonesia?

Thanks, Christophe

Hi
Try to first superpose bathymetry and free surface or have a look to the water height.
No precise idea of another solution instead of TPXO but sometimes you need to enlarge the model if TPXO solution is not accurate near the coast...

Hope this helps
