hello
I want to activate the sponge layer in the boundary, how is it done in Telemac?
Thanks.

Hello,

To my knowledge, there is no sponge layer available in standard TELEMAC-2D. How do you know this feature? Perhaps in a WIP or personnal release?

I have seen this feature implemented in ADCIRC which can useful for open boundary treatment when modelling storm surges.

I am currently having difficulties with the open boundary treatment for storm surge modelling in an oceanic environment whereby the offshore boundary setups a seiching within the model domain. In this case I am prescribing a WL=0 and free velocities along the open boundary, however this results in reflections back into the domain.

Does anybody have any experience specific to Telemac regarding the best form of open ocean boundary treatment for storm surge modelling? Is there any kind of radiation or weakly reflective treatment that could be applied to let waves pass freely through the open boundary?

Hello Toby again,

As you have already written in another topic, if classical Dirichlet conditions to prescribe values at open boundaries are not OK (e.g. for non reflecting waves), another solution in TELEMAC-2D could be to use Thompson conditions.

For boundary conditions for storm surge modelling, I have written an answer in your other topic (for other readers):
